Pengaruh Perendaman Larutan Toge dan Larutan Bawang Merah Terhadap Pertumbuhan dan Produksi Jagung Manis (Zea mays L.)

Abstract


This study aimed to investigate the effects of soaking sweet corn (Zea mays L.) seeds in mung bean sprout solution and shallot extract on plant growth and yield. The research was conducted in Sampe Cita Glugur Rimbun Village, Kutalimbaru District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra, from January to April 2025, using a factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors: mung bean sprout solution (T0(control), T1(3%), T2(6%), T3(9%)) and shallot extract (B0(control), B1(3%), B2(6%), B3(9%)). Observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, cob length and diameter, and yield with and without husks per sample and per plot. The results showed that both mung bean sprout and shallot extract treatments had a significant effect on all growth and yield parameters. The highest results were obtained from T3 (9% mung bean sprout solution) and B3 (9% shallot extract) treatments. Although interactions between treatments were generally not significant, some parameters showed positive combined effects. Increasing concentrations of the treatments showed a linear relationship with improved plant performance. Therefore, mung bean sprout solution and shallot extract can serve as effective organic alternatives to enhance sweet corn cultivation in an environmentally friendly manner.
