Efektivitas Serangga Penyerbuk Terhadap Pembentukan Buah Pada Tanaman Aren (Arenga pinnata L.) Di Kecamatan Marancar, Kabupaten Tapanuli Selatan
Abstract
The aren palm (Arenga pinnata) is one of the plantation commodities with high economic value in Indonesia, especially in Marancar District, South Tapanuli Regency. This study aims to find out the types of pollinating insects that visit aren flowers, study the activity of these pollinators, and analyze their relationship with fruit formation in Marancar District, South Tapanuli Regency. The research was conducted for about 4 months using an exploratory survey method through direct observation of blooming aren flowers. Observations were carried out in the morning and evening. The recorded data included the number of insects caught, insect identification, the number of seeds formed, and the weight of the fruit bunches. Insect identification was done at the Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Graha Nusantara University, Padangsidimpuan, using a morphological taxonomic approach. The research results showed that the number of pollinating insects caught was 2,820 individuals, consisting of 1,685 individuals in the morning and 1,135 individuals in the afternoon. The insects found belonged to the order Coleoptera with 5 families, namely Curculionidae, Staphylinidae, Carabidae, Chrysomelidae, and Hydrophilidae. The Staphylinidae family was the most dominant group with a percentage of 44.15%, followed by Carabidae at 32.98%. The total number of seeds formed in all samples reached 21,746 seeds with a total bunch weight of 1,502 kg. The study showed that pollinating insect activity is higher in the morning and is suspected to influence the success of fruit formation in aren plants.
