IMPLIKASI HUKUM PENERAPAN OTOMASI PADA PRODUKSI OTOMOTIF TERHADAP PERLINDUNGAN KONSUMEN
Abstract
The integration of automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence into industrial and automotive production can improve efficiency and product consistency, but it also raises legal questions when a defective product or system failure causes consumer loss. This study examines the application of Indonesia’s Consumer Protection Law to automated production, focusing on business-actor responsibility, product defects, consumer information, and the limits of the existing legal framework. The research uses normative juridical methods with statutory and conceptual approaches, supported by a descriptive-analytical review of legislation and relevant scholarly literature. The analysis indicates that Articles 4, 7, 8, and 19 of Law No. 8 of 1999 provide a legal basis for consumer rights, business-actor duties, restrictions on defective products and misleading information, and compensation for losses. Automation does not by itself remove the business actor’s responsibility; however, failures involving software, algorithms, sensors, or integrated systems may complicate proof of defect and causation. The study’s contribution is to connect the principle of product liability under Indonesian consumer law with risks arising from automated production and AI-enabled processes. It recommends clearer technical safety standards, traceable quality-control records, transparent product information, and more adaptive guidance for allocating responsibility among manufacturers, automation vendors, and other relevant parties.
